AUTHOR, ORGANIZATIONAL STRATEGIST, ADVISOR & INTERNATIONAL SPEAKER

The work matters.

So do the people

carrying it.

I explore how we do work that matters, how we lead people to accomplish it, and how we build organizations that support both the work and the people doing it.

THE WORK AND THE PEOPLE

How do we accomplish work that matters without losing sight of the people doing it?

We ask a lot of people when the work matters.

We ask them to make decisions, solve problems, lead others, carry responsibility, navigate uncertainty, and keep moving when the stakes are high.

But accomplishing the mission isn't the only question.

We also have to ask what accomplishing it requires of the people doing the work—and what we're building around them to make that work possible.

FOUR QUESTIONS SHAPING MY WORK

What are we trying to accomplish that matters?

Meaningful Work

What is happening to and within the people carrying the work?

People

How do we translate what matters into collective action?

Leadership

What do we build so people can accomplish meaningful work together and sustain it?

Organizations

TWO PLACES TO LOOK

Where is the difficulty coming from?

Sometimes what's making the work harder is personal. Sometimes it's organizational.
Often, we need to look at both.

Something feels harder than it should.

You may be carrying responsibility, making difficult decisions, navigating a demanding season, or trying to understand what is—and isn't—yours to hold.

FOR PEOPLE

Is your organization built to carry what you're asking of it?

Sometimes capable people compensate for unclear roles, insufficient capacity, broken processes, mismatched authority, or organizational dependencies. The work gets done—but the system underneath it remains unchanged.

FOR ORGANIZATIONS & LEADERS

A PLACE TO BEGIN

When something feels harder than it should, the answer isn't always to try harder.

Take this 2-minute quiz to get clear about what you're carrying—and what may be making the work harder than it needs to be.

What’s making this so hard?

Just because you can carry it,
doesn't mean it's yours.

Some things are worth carrying because some things are worth caring about.

Discernment lives between those two truths.

ORGANIZATIONS & LEADERS

Sometimes the person isn't the problem. The system is.

Capable people often find ways to make difficult work succeed. But sometimes that capability compensates for unclear roles, insufficient capacity, mismatched authority, broken processes, or organizational dependencies.

When that happens, the work may get done while the underlying problem remains.

I work with CEOs, founders, executives, and senior leaders to understand what's happening beneath the work, determine what needs to change, and build organizations better equipped to accomplish what matters.

MEET DANITA

I’ve spent much of my life being trusted with things that mattered.

A woman with brown hair sitting on a black chair, smiling, holding a book, wearing a teal blouse and gold necklace, surrounded by glass bowls and decorative items in an art gallery or store.

I've seen these questions from more than one side.

I've led missions, teams, programs, businesses, and organizations. I've made decisions that affected other people's lives and worked inside complex systems where the mission mattered and the stakes were real.

I've also experienced these questions personally—as a wife, mother, woman of faith, veteran, author, entrepreneur, and someone learning that meaningful work shapes the people doing it.

Across very different settings, I keep returning to the same questions: What are we trying to accomplish? What is it asking of our people? How are we leading them? And what have we built around them to make the work possible?

WRITING & IDEAS

The questions take different forms.

Books, essays, research, and conversations give me different ways to explore meaningful work, identity, responsibility, leadership, faith, wholeness, and the people entrusted with things that matter.

PUBLISHED WORK

Promise Over Purpose

Danita Cummins with two readers holding copies of Promise Over Purpose

What happens when our search for purpose becomes another measure of our worth?

Promise Over Purpose explores the difference between relentlessly pursuing what we're supposed to accomplish and learning to trust the promises of God—and the identity we receive before we ever achieve a thing.

MANUSCRIPT IN DEVELOPMENT

A Life Unbroken

A young woman with long brown hair, wearing a dark blue top and brown pants, sits at a wooden table writing in a notebook. There are potted plants on the window sill behind her, which lets in natural light. The setting appears to be a cozy, rustic indoor space with a brick and white wall.

Some experiences don't simply pass. They leave something behind.

A Life Unbroken is about what happens when we allow God into those places—the wounds, losses, disappointments, and stories we've carried—and begin the deeper work of restoration.

I'm writing this one from closer to the bone.

PODCAST

Entrusted to Lead

Leadership is what happens when responsibility becomes collective.

Entrusted to Lead explores what happens when we're responsible for things that matter—people, decisions, missions, organizations, resources, and work.

Through conversations and solo episodes, I examine leadership, responsibility, discernment, meaningful work, organizational life, and the people responsible for making it happen.

It's also one of the places where I follow developing questions, test ideas, and learn from people whose experience can deepen the work.

Books arranged on a wooden shelf in front of a white brick wall with a large text sign that reads "ENTRUSTED TO LEAD" and a subtitle "With Danita Cummins."

SPEAKING & TEACHING

Ideas that help people see their work differently.

I speak and teach about meaningful work, leadership, responsibility, organizational life, wholeness, and what it means to steward things that matter.

From executive teams and conferences to universities, churches, ministries, and international audiences, I help people examine what's happening beneath the work—and what greater clarity might make possible.

Entrusted to Lead

Writing about the work, the people, and what happens between them.

Essays and reflections on meaningful work, leadership, responsibility, organizations, faith, and the people entrusted with things that matter.

This is where developing ideas take shape—through questions, research, experience, and conversations worth continuing.

THE WORK MATTERS. SO DO THE PEOPLE.

Meaningful work asks something of us.

The question isn't only whether we accomplished what mattered.

It's what the work required of our people, what our leadership reinforced, and what we built along the way.

Those are the questions I'm exploring here.
