Entrusted to Lead – Season 3, Episode 60

What Does Faith-Driven Leadership Really Look Like?

As faith-driven leaders, we often ask ourselves: What truly guides the way I lead?

It’s easy to say we lead by our values, but when life and leadership get busy, we may unknowingly drift—driven more by pressure, performance, or people-pleasing than by faith and conviction.

In Episode 60 of Entrusted to Lead, I sat down with leadership mentor Jack Cohen to explore this truth:

You can’t lead others clearly until you’re clear on what’s driving you from within.

Beliefs and Values: Know the Difference

A key moment in our conversation was learning the difference between beliefs and values:

  • Beliefs are shaped by your environment and past experiences.
  • Values are your core convictions—unchanging, deeply held truths that define who you are and how you lead.

When we confuse the two, we tend to react emotionally instead of responding with purpose.
I’ve made decisions that looked right on paper but felt wrong in my spirit—and each time, it pointed back to unclear or compromised values.

Why Self-Awareness Is Essential in Faith-Driven Leadership

Leadership doesn’t require perfection—it requires presence. The kind of presence that only comes from self-awareness and emotional intelligence.

Here are some questions to reflect on:

  • Am I leading from faith or from fear?
  • What emotion is influencing my current leadership decisions?
  • What story am I telling myself about this opportunity—or about myself?

Self-awareness allows you to pause and lead with clarity. It’s not a weakness; it’s a leadership superpower.

Aligning Vision with Values

I often say: Leadership isn’t about climbing—it’s about aligning.

Without alignment, we start chasing approval, titles, or temporary wins. But when you create a faith-fueled vision, rooted in your values, everything changes.

You begin to:

  • Set boundaries that protect your peace
  • Say no without guilt
  • Lead from purpose—not pressure

This is exactly what I unpack in my book, Promise Over Purpose—how to shift from performing for success to living from God’s promises.

Let This Be Your Anchor

Let me ask you: What’s one value guiding your leadership right now?

Maybe it’s:

  • Faith
  • Freedom
  • Compassion
  • Integrity
  • Resilience

Write it down. Let it shape your yeses, your no’s, your vision, and your boundaries. Because faith-driven leadership starts from the inside out—and the people you serve don’t need a perfect leader. They need a present one.

Anchored.

Aware.

Aligned.
